Simulation of crack growth in residual stress fields of pre-fatigued T-welded joints repaired by tungsten inert gas: a 3D approach

In this article, a three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) is used to predict the crack growth at weld toe of pre-fatigued T-joint that was repaired with remelting technique. The numerical models were developed using MSC.Marc software. Fatigue life estimated by integrating Paris-Erdogan law. stress intensity factors are obtained virtual closure technique (VCCT). T-welded joints, made S355 steel, covered electrode process and pre-cracked fatigue. These welded joints TIG dressing. field generated dressing FEM model, presented in authors’ previous works. For VCCT recently authors effect overloads. pre-existence an elliptical toe, depth 0.5 mm considered. It also studied pre-existing cracks which have been poorly repaired. observed produce residual compression fields on causes delay growth. results compared experimental ones. fatigue’s lives simulations paper allows evaluate application conditions repair joints.
